General Questions

Mobile IoT provides smart solutions for mobile living spaces – motorhomes, caravans, boats, and homes. We combine proven hardware with open standards like Home Assistant and Zigbee for maximum flexibility and independence from cloud providers.

Our packages are designed for anyone who wants to add smart features to their mobile living spaces – whether you’re a full-time camper, weekend sailor, or homeowner looking to automate your garage or workshop. Technical experience is helpful but not required.

Yes. You can start with a lean setup and add sensors, automations, or extra modules later without rebuilding everything.

Packages are structured by use case (boat, home, caravan, motorhome). Each page shows what’s included and how you can expand. Every package is optimized for the typical requirements of its environment.

Technology & Hardware

We use high-quality, proven components: Home Assistant Yellow/Green as the hub, Zigbee sensors for temperature, humidity, motion, and more, plus UniFi network equipment for reliable connectivity. All components are modular and expandable.

Home Assistant is an open-source smart home automation platform. It runs locally, is privacy-friendly, and supports thousands of devices. As the heart of our solutions, it gives you full control over your system.

Zigbee is a low-power wireless protocol for smart home devices. It works independently of WiFi, creates a self-healing mesh network, and offers excellent range. Ideal for mobile applications with limited power supply.

Yes, core functions run completely locally. Notifications and remote access require an internet connection, but automations, sensor data, and local control work offline.

Most Zigbee sensors last 1-2 years on a CR2032 battery, depending on usage. Some sensors like door/window sensors can last up to 3 years.

Yes! Home Assistant supports over 2,000 integrations – from Philips Hue to Shelly to Matter devices. Almost any smart home product can be integrated.

Connectivity & Network

For remote access and notifications: yes. Some features can work locally without permanent internet, depending on your scenario.

We use UniFi components for professional WiFi coverage and optional LTE/5G routers for mobile internet. Depending on your needs, we offer mesh solutions for large boats or outdoor access points for campsites.

Via secure VPN connections or the optional Home Assistant Cloud service (Nabu Casa). Both allow secure access to your system from anywhere in the world.

Yes, with the Home Assistant app (iOS/Android) you have full access to all functions – view sensor data, control devices, receive notifications.

Alerts & Notifications

Depending on the package and your preferences: via push, email, or other channels. The goal is reliable, fast notifications for critical events. You can also set up SMS or Telegram notifications.

Typical scenarios: intrusion attempts (door/window sensors, motion detectors), water leaks, smoke/fire, temperature deviations, power outages, gas leaks, and much more.

Yes, you decide which events trigger which notifications. Time-based rules (e.g., no notifications at night) are also possible.

Installation & Support

If you’re comfortable with setup: yes. We can deliver pre-configured systems that just need to be connected to your network. Or we can support you remotely during setup.

Yes, we offer on-site installation in the Berlin/Brandenburg area. For other regions, we can provide recommendations or work with local partners.

We offer email and phone support for all customers. For complex customizations or expansions, we’re also available via remote assistance.

Yes, we’re working on video tutorials and documentation. There’s also an active Home Assistant community with thousands of guides and help resources.

Yes, all components we deliver have the standard manufacturer warranty (usually 2 years). If you have problems, we’ll help you with the warranty process.

Privacy & Security

Yes. Home Assistant runs locally on your hardware – your data never leaves your network unless you enable cloud services. You have full control.

Only if you explicitly enable it (e.g., Home Assistant Cloud for remote access). Otherwise, all data stays locally on your device.

Home Assistant is regularly updated and security vulnerabilities are quickly patched. We recommend strong passwords, 2-factor authentication, and regular updates.
